Rhode Island BBQ: Ladder 133 Reviewed
The site's 270th barbecue review is a quick one—and probably a bit kinder than it need be—for the underwhelming Ladder 133 (Providence RI). I've been a little tough on Long Island BBQ over the years, but the outlook for greater Providence BBQ is just as bleak these days. Check out the review via the Reviews page, the link above or link to reviews using the red icons in the Joints directory.

New York BBQ: Mighty Quinn's Reviewed
After not having visited New York for six months, I returned and had a wonderful barbecue lunch at the new Mighty Quinn's Barbeque (NYC), the subject of my 269th barbecue review. Check out the review via the Reviews page, the link above or the red icons in the Joints directory.

Best. Commercial. Ever.
This is the "director's cut" of the commercial for the Memphis BBQ burger ( topped with BBQ pulled pork) at Carl's Jr and Hardee's. Who wins this burgers-versus-barbecue battle? Watch and find out.

Boston Burgers: Met Back Bay Reviewed
I swear to God, I'm not turning into Crusty McGrumpster; I'm just on a bad streak when it comes to Boston area reviews lately, from Farmstead Table to Firebox BBQ to Met Back Bay (Boston MA), the subject of my latest burger review.

Boston BBQ: Firebox BBQ Re-reviewed
Time for another barbecue review update, this time for the 3 year old Firebox BBQ (Bedford MA), a joint that's undergone big changes to their menu and physical space over that time. Have they delivered on their early promise? Check out the answer in the re-review via the Reviews page, the link above or the red icons in the Joints directory.

Maine BBQ: Dickey's Barbecue Pit Reviewed
The site's 268th barbecue review is for—would you believe it—the national chain Dickey's Barbecue Pit (South Portland ME), or at least its representation in the Maine Mall as an over-the-counter food court operation. There aren't too many Dickey's franchises in New England and I had never been to one until two days ago, so my unplanned visit was mostly a welcome novelty. Check out the review via the Reviews page, the link above or link to reviews using the red icons in the Joints directory.

Joints Directory Sadness: RUB (NYC) Closes
Joints Directory Madness
Here's the latest batch of barbecue Joints directory activity, spanning six states. This time there are ten new joints (including two expansions), nine closings (including two contractions and two from temporary to permanent), two changes to seasonal status, one new website, one fixed website, one move and two gray-outs due to menu changes.
NEW JOINTS and/or NEW TO THE DIRECTORY
Fink's Smokehouse (Dumont NJ) represents the return of "cult pitmaster" Dave Finkelstein, formerly of Bailey's Smokehouse (Blauvelt NY) and most recently of Harley's Smokeshack (NYC). The menu includes smoked wings, "Texas Lollipops" (bacon wrapped sausage), pork ribs, beef ribs, "Fried-a-Cue" chicken, BBQ hash, pulled turkey, po boys, a gumbo of the day, an ever-changing chili and much more. Thanks to Fink for the info. Facebook

Mighty Quinn's BBQ (NYC) is the just-opened brick and mortar location of a successful Smorgasburg (Brooklyn Flea) operation. Their motto/MO of "We source the best quality ingredients and don't fuss with them too much" has earned very positive reviews so far, along with a high ranking on the PigTrip must-try list. Their "Texalina barbeque" offerings include beef and pork ribs, wings, chicken, sausage, brisket and pork. The outside-the-box sides feature pomme frites (or fries if you wish), grilled ratatouille and edamame and sweet pea salad. www.mightyquinnsbbq.com

Squeels on Wheels (sic) (Ludlow VT) is an outdoor barbecue operation that sets up at the Ludlow Country Store and sometimes additionally (see Facebook) at Okemo Mountain ski area. www.squeelsonwheels.com
BBQ Red (Wappingers Falls NY) is a month-old joint with a trio of 50" TVs and mammoth ribs cooked on a Southern Pride smoker. Thanks to owner Greg for some info. www.bbqred.com
Ribworks Outpost (also in Wappingers Falls NY) is literally an outpost of Billy Joe's Ribworks, setup for easy carry out and with a separate website. www.ribworksoutpost.com
Pig Out BBQ (Schenectady NY) is a year-old joint serving the barbecue basics with a variety of sauces and thick Kaiser buns. Facebook
Smokin' Joe's BBQ (East Greenbush NY) is a year-old Hudson Valley joint with an emphasis on sports and entertainment and a narrow menu of BBQ, burgers and wings. Facebook
Down to the Bone Barbecue Company (Stanhope NJ) is a new joint with a menu so wide it has 10-ounce burgers, crab cakes, lettuce wraps, smoked salmon carbonara (huh?), Captain Crunch Chicken and Barbecue Bolognese in addition to two kinds of ribs, rib tips, smoked wings and the usual barbecue suspects. www.downtothebonebarbecuecompany.com
Strand Smokehouse (Astoria NY) is the latest barbecue upstart in Queens, the bourgeoning borough that's out to prove it can hold its own against Manhattan and Brooklyn. With no Facebook or website yet, there's litte to go on, but a recent Serious Eats preview indicates the meats are unsauced and include pastrami instead of brisket.
Brother Jimmy's BBQ (New Brunswick NJ) represents further expansion of the NYC barbecue mini chain that once had an outpost in Cambridge MA. Thanks to Bob for the lead. www.brotherjimmys.com
Lowcountry (NYC) has closed.
JB's Bar BQ (Brewster NY) has closed.
Boudan BBQ (Milford CT) has closed. Sold the truck, in fact.
Bubby's (Brooklyn NY) has closed its DUMBO location, leaving the TriBeCa location in Manhattan. But the downsizing has also extended to the barbecue menu, which now only includes two rotating nightly selections.
Adam's Rib (West Babylon NY) has closed. Massapequa Park remains.
Cattlemen's Steakhouse (Lindenhurst NY) is closed. I recently grayed out the Port Jefferson location, but the original has also fallen. Thanks to Sledneck for the info.
Smoked (Kent CT) has closed. Refreshing to see ownership actually post on their website that they are pulling out, rather than leave it a mystery as so many do.
Wide Open Saloon (Laconia NH) appears to be down for the count (in other words, wide closed) after suffering a fire in 2010, not opening for two consecutive summers and not updating their Facebook page in ages.
Memphis BBQ and Blues (Milford NH) close right around Christmas, as announced on their Facebook page.
Big Bubba's BBQ (Uncasville CT) is cosed for good despite claims on its website of being"temporarily closed for updates." Thanks to the Mohegan Sun Casino for confirming that another restaurant is moving in. www.bigbubbasbbq.com
Arnie's Place (Concord Heights NH) has been flagged as seasonal. They re-open for the 2013 season at the end of February. www.arniesplace.com
Beach Fire (Ogunquit ME) has similarly been flagged as seasonal. www.beachfiremaine.com
Our Town Pizza (Peterborough NH) no longer has barbecue (or even "barbecue") on the menu, so it's now grayed out.
Lily Flanagan's (Islip NY) no longer serves ribs and barbecue fare now that Will Breakstone is no longer involved.
Cast Iron Soul (Hamden CT) has moved from its former New Haven home, keeping the same phone number. Thanks to Steve from Cast Iron Soul for confirming. www.castironsoul.com
Bone Lick Park (NYC) now has a website. www.bonelickparkbbq.com
BBQue's Smokeshack (NYC) now has a functioning website. www.bbquessmokeshack.com
Adam's Rib (Massapequa Park NY) now lists its current home and not the closed West Babylon location. The website has now changed as well. www.adamsribny.com
Fatty Cue (Brooklyn) has had its Williamsburg location closed for repair for exactly a year and is now targeting early February for a reopening. www.fattycue.com
