Joints Directory Madness
Here's the latest batch of barbecue Joints directory activity, spanning
three states. This time there are three new joints, two expansions, two closings and one opening that's still not happening yet.

NEW JOINTS and/or NEW TO THE DIRECTORY
Elsmere BBQ and Wood Grill (South Portland ME) opened last Friday night, one day ahead of schedule. The menu includes the usual barbecue suspects (ribs, pork, brisket, chicken, sausage), plus smoked-then-grilled wings, BBQ oysters, a quesadilla of the day, a flatbread of the day, smoked salmon, blackened catfish, a smoked or blackened fish of the day, a grilled portabello mushroom sandwich, a custom blend beef burger and a black bean burger.
Meat Hut (Clinton CT) is an outdoor stand. Thanks to Mark for the lead. Facebook
Mainely Meat (Bar Harbor ME) and Mainely Meat On Main (Ellsworth ME) are the expansions of Mainely Meat at Atlantic Brewery (Bar Harbor ME). Both serve beer from Atlantic Brewing, whose brewery hosts the original Mainely Meat location in Bar Harbor. www.mainelymeatbbq.homestead.com
Trenton Lobster Pound & Real Pit BBQ (Ellsworth ME) is a full service mostly outdoor eatery on Route 3 on the way to Bar Harbor. I've seen the pit, and it's real and spectacular. I should have eaten there. www.welovelobsterandbbq.com
Pete & Kelly's Blues Wagon (Trenton NJ) is most likely a goner. Their phone number now belongs to a private residence, there's no web evidence of their existence beyond a 2 year old newspaper profile and I did not spot them in my recent travels to the area.
RW's BBQ (Brookfield CT) is now closed. Not that its the most reliable source, but several Yelp reviews from a year ago described it as being sold (not true) and having gone downhill (possibly true). I stopped by about a month ago to investigate, only to find the closed sign.
Pride and Joy BBQ ( NYC) may or may not be happening, but it ain't happening soon. Originally slated to open in February or March and then reported in late May to be opening a week later, it saw late June and late July blow by with still no opening. They stopped answering the phone, pulled the plug on their Facebook page, and the website that once had full menus is now "under construction." So what's the deal? It looks like there's no deal between the original investors and barbecue legend Myron Mixon, who've encountered creative differences and chosen to go their separate ways. The restaurant isn't kaput, but I'm not holding out much hope of a quick opening or it being worthy of a priority visit. It's hard to know the real story, but if it's true, credit Mixon for not just taking the quick buck. Thanks to Bob for some info on this.
Hudson Valley BBQ: BBQ Red Reviewed
The site's 290th barbecue review is for BBQ Red (Wappingers Falls NY), a strip mall barbecue joint in the Hudson Valley about an hour and a half north of New York City. Check out the review via the Reviews page, the link above or the red icons in the Joints directory.

PigTrip is Seven Years Old Today
Today PigTrip turns seven. As predicted a year ago at this time, the quantity of output took a step back, with 31 new barbecue reviews, 8 barbecue review updates and 18 burger reviews over the past twelve months—down from 37, 12 and 21 in the previous twelve months.
In many ways the PigTrip of today is a return to its earliest days, focusing on reviews, directory updates and little else. I've chosen to let "the big boys" grab the restaurant scoops, openings and first looks, and offer what they don't: brutally honest reviews without the fawning and without the foodie jive. But I still hope to get back into the barbecue and restaurant essays that were a hallmark of this site in its 2007-2008 heyday. As for the top 10 lists I promised a year ago, I failed big time, producing not a single one. But they're coming, starting with the updated Wings List (NFL opening weekend) and all-new Burnt Ends List (this fall). New joints are opening, older joints are evolving and I'm still hungry, so PigTrip will be around for awhile, even if it's slowing down.
